After stepping down from his position as England manager following the Euro 2024 final, Gareth Southgate has made it clear that he won’t be returning to coaching for at least a year. Despite rumors linking him to potential roles, including a high-profile one at Manchester United, Southgate has chosen to take a break from the sidelines.

During an event in Athens, Southgate expressed that he isn’t in a hurry to dive back into football management. “I’m not planning to coach in the next year, that’s for certain,” he said, dismissing any possibility of returning to the dugout in the immediate future.

Having led England for seven years, Southgate believes it’s essential to take time off after such a high-pressure role. He emphasized the need to recharge, both physically and mentally, saying, “After such a significant job, it’s important to allow yourself time to reset, to think clearly before making any decisions about the future.”

Though he’s stepping away from coaching, Southgate hinted that he is not short on offers or potential projects but is content to be patient for now. “I’m fortunate that there are several possibilities, but there’s no urgency. I’m enjoying where I am at the moment.”

His name had been floated as a possible candidate to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, but for now, it seems Southgate is choosing to focus on life outside football, taking the time to consider what his next move might be in the long run.
