CAYMANAS PARK — On a Saturday afternoon charged with anticipation, a seasoned campaigner silenced any lingering doubts. Nautical Star, a six-year-old American-bred powerhouse under the reins of Raddesh Roman, obliterated the field in the $1.25-million St Catherine Cup, delivering a resounding 10 ¾ length victory that turned heads across the grandstand.
Trained by the formidable Anthony Nunes, Nautical Star broke sharply from the gates and made the six-furlong sprint a solo performance. The field never stood a chance. Clocking 1:11.2, he ticked off fractions of 23.4, 47.1, and 58.4 before cruising home untouched, leaving Champion Bubbler and Mark My Identity trailing in his wake.
This win marked a pivotal moment in Nautical Star’s local campaign—a comeback statement after a rough outing as the favourite in last year’s high-stakes Mouttet Mile. Saturday’s romp not only secured his first victory on Jamaican soil but also reaffirmed the raw power and stamina that have defined his career.
For jockey Roman, it was business as usual. Earlier in the fifth race, he had already steered Last Possession to a win for trainer Anthony Dixon, securing a double on the eight-race card. No trainer managed more than one victory on the day, highlighting the tightly contested nature of the meet.
Racing returns to Caymanas Park this Saturday. But the echoes of Nautical Star’s commanding performance will linger—proof that when form meets fury, the result is unforgettable.
