KINGSTON, Jamaica — Security forces have locked down sections of Rockfort in Kingston East under a 48-hour curfew, citing escalating concerns over violence in the community.

The restriction, which commenced at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, will remain in force until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13. During this period, residents inside the designated zone must remain indoors unless specifically permitted by the commanding officers on duty.

The affected area spans multiple entry and exit points across Rockfort, including critical corridors along Windward Road, Wareika Road, Marl Road, and adjoining intersections stretching toward Hillcrest and Pleasant Heights.

Law enforcement officials state the curfew is designed to suppress criminal activity and restore order, with increased patrols and checkpoints expected throughout the community. Residents are urged to comply with the directives to ensure their safety and avoid penalties.

Authorities have not disclosed whether the measure will be extended beyond the initial 48-hour period but emphasized that further actions will be determined based on conditions on the ground.
