TRELAWNY, Jamaica — An early-morning crash on the Salt Marsh main road has left five St Catherine residents dead and a community in shock.
Investigators say a Toyota Hiace minivan heading west toward a party in Hanover lost control about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, flipped, and came to rest upside-down along the coastal stretch. Two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene; three others succumbed later at Falmouth Public General Hospital despite emergency intervention.
All five victims were from Spanish Town and Portmore addresses, police confirmed. Their identities are being kept confidential until relatives are officially informed.
Collision-reconstruction officers remained on site for several hours, combing the roadway for evidence while traffic was diverted through Salt Marsh Square. Preliminary findings point to excessive speed, but a full forensic report is pending.
This latest fatality marks yet another weekend tragedy on Jamaica’s north-coast corridor, highlighting renewed calls for defensive-driving education and stricter night-time enforcement.
