WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Michael Lee-Chin, Chairman of the National Commercial Bank (NCB) Financial Group, has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly expand the bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) network across Jamaica. The initiative aims to improve access to banking services for all Jamaicans, ensuring broader financial inclusion.

“Our goal is to ensure that every Jamaican has access to financial services. We are not just replacing old ATMs but are committed to establishing a comprehensive network across the entire country,” Lee-Chin stated during a press briefing in Westmoreland last Thursday.

Lee-Chin acknowledged the challenges faced, including recent incidents of ATM vandalism and theft, as well as some bank locations being closed. Despite these issues, NCB remains steadfast in its mission to enhance service accessibility. “There are challenges we are actively working through to make this vision a reality,” he added, without elaborating on specific obstacles.

Earlier this year, it was reported that NCB plans to introduce at least 50 new ATMs in economically underserved areas. Currently, NCB boasts approximately 300 of the 824 ATMs island-wide, representing 36 percent of the total network. This positions NCB as the largest ATM network in Jamaica. In comparison, Scotiabank, the second-largest bank, controls 35 percent of the ATMs, while Jamaica National holds 18 percent.

The expansion initiative underscores NCB’s commitment to improving financial accessibility and reinforcing its position as a leading financial institution in Jamaica.
