A traumatic experience on a Qatar Airways flight has left an Australian couple shaken after they were forced to sit next to a deceased passenger for the remainder of their journey, despite the availability of other seats.

Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin were on their way to Venice when the incident occurred. Mid-flight, a woman tragically passed away, and the couple was asked to vacate their seats near the crew area to accommodate the body. While Colin was offered a seat elsewhere, Ring was left with no choice but to remain next to the deceased, who was wrapped in blankets.

Though Ring acknowledged the swift action of the crew, he found the lack of care and communication towards passengers disturbing. Upon landing, emergency responders unwrapped the body in full view of those on board, adding to their distress.

“We know the airline wasn’t at fault for the tragic death, but there should be procedures in place to safeguard the passengers’ emotional well-being in such situations,” Colin said in an interview with Sky News. “This experience has been very unsettling, and there was no follow-up from the airline.”

The couple is now urging airlines to implement clearer protocols for handling similar incidents, ensuring passengers’ dignity and comfort during such emotionally charged moments.
