In an impressive display of teamwork and determination, Vere Phoenix United clinched their first win of the season in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League, overcoming Molynes United with a 3-1 scoreline at Sabina Park on Sunday. This match marked a promising start for the newly appointed co-owner and technical director Craig Butler and head coach Lenworth “Teacha” Hyde.

The action kicked off quickly, with Vere Phoenix showcasing their attacking prowess. Just 12 minutes into the game, Roshawn Oldfield unleashed a powerful half volley from the edge of the box, sending the ball past Molynes United’s goalkeeper to put the Clarendon-based club ahead.

However, Molynes United responded just two minutes later. Jermy Nelson seized on a loose ball in the box after a defensive lapse, leveling the score at 1-1 with a precise finish in the 14th minute.

Determined to regain their lead, Vere Phoenix struck again in the 25th minute. Rising star Denzel McKenzie, at just 17 years old, displayed composure beyond his years as he capitalized on a defensive error, skillfully slotting the ball home to make it 2-1.

The second half saw both teams creating numerous opportunities, but it was Vere Phoenix who remained resolute in defense, thwarting Molynes’ attempts to equalize. The match sealed its fate in stoppage time when Romarion Thomas found the back of the net, adding a third goal to ensure a comfortable victory.

With this win, Vere Phoenix United has successfully climbed off the bottom of the league table, rebounding from their initial defeat against Montego Bay United. The team’s performance on Sunday has undoubtedly set a positive tone for the season ahead, igniting hope among fans and players alike for a turnaround in fortunes under their new management.
