ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Portmore is gearing up for an event like no other on November 30, as the 30+ Fashion Show and Expo comes to the Portmore Community College. This exciting showcase is set to honor the modern woman—celebrating confidence, sophistication, and style for women in their 30s and beyond.
The event will shine a spotlight on local fashion designers who are poised to compete for an exclusive opportunity: a chance to present their collections at the prestigious Scandinavian International Fashion (SIF) Week in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2025. But this isn’t just about fashion—it’s a celebration of how far women have come, blending style with substance to create a dynamic event that offers much more than runway shows.
The 30+ Fashion Show aims to inspire and empower. Throughout the day, attendees will have access to motivational workshops and discussions with industry leaders, diving into subjects such as entrepreneurship, personal finances, real estate investment, and travel. The goal is to help women redefine what success looks like at every stage of their lives.
Stephanie Elliott-Gunning, CEO of Compass Media and the mastermind behind the event, shared her vision for the 30+ Fashion Show, stressing that it’s more than just a celebration of fashion—it’s an opportunity for women to step into their power and claim their space in industries that too often overlook them. “We want women to embrace their true potential and show that the best is yet to come,” Elliott-Gunning said. “This is about pushing boundaries and redefining success on our own terms.”
The event’s inspiration comes from Elliott-Gunning’s own journey, which faced setbacks but ultimately led her to a partnership with Sonja Anderson, the CEO of Scandinavian International Fashion Week. Through this collaboration, local talents are getting a chance to gain international exposure, including Jamaican models and designers who are seeking global recognition. Elliott-Gunning is also aiming to bring SIF Week to Jamaica in the future.
“By supporting this event, we’re not only spotlighting local talent but also positioning Jamaica as a hub for international fashion innovation,” Elliott-Gunning explained. “The time is now for women to showcase their talents and rise to the occasion.”
In addition to the fashion and empowerment workshops, the event will feature an array of entertainment, with a lively “Sale-a-bration” inspired by Black Friday shopping, offering exclusive discounts and deals from local vendors.
The 30+ Fashion Show and Expo promises to be a game-changer for women in Jamaica—an opportunity to feel empowered, inspired, and celebrated in a space that recognizes the beauty of experience and the power of style.
