In a bid to curb escalating violence, Manchester authorities have enacted a curfew across key areas following a deadly attack in Knockpatrick’s Inverness district. On Thursday, a robbery at a local bar turned fatal for 30-year-old Rushaine Weltshire, leaving his girlfriend wounded in the ordeal.
Starting Friday evening, a nightly curfew was implemented across several communities identified as high-risk zones. This includes Greenvale, Albion, Porus, and surrounding areas like Newhall, Comfort, Broadleaf, and May Day. The curfew, running nightly from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM until Monday morning, is intended to restore stability and prevent potential retaliation after recent violent events.
Crime statistics underscore the urgency of these measures: the parish has recorded 43 homicides this year, with 42 documented by October 20—a significant rise from last year’s total by this date. Gun-related incidents have also climbed, showing a nine percent increase compared to the previous year’s figures.
With heightened security now in place, authorities are urging residents to comply with the curfew and report any suspicious activity to support ongoing efforts to stabilize the area.
