In a recent development, authorities deported a group of seventeen Haitians back to their country late Wednesday night, after they had reportedly resided in Jamaica for approximately one year. This group, which included 13 men and four women, had initially entered Jamaica illegally.

Sources indicate that some of these individuals had been living in Jamaica under state supervision, while others were gathered during a police operation over the weekend aimed at facilitating their repatriation. A court order mandated their return to Haiti, reflecting ongoing immigration enforcement efforts.

While some members of the group had settled into domestic life in Jamaica, forming partnerships and even starting families, the return comes amidst dire circumstances back home. Haiti has been grappling with a complex web of economic instability, escalating violence, and political turmoil that has forced many citizens to seek refuge elsewhere.

The assassination of President Jovenel Moise in 2021 exacerbated the crisis, as gangs have increasingly asserted control over various regions, further destabilizing the nation and compelling thousands to flee in search of safety and stability.
