British singer and former One Direction member, Liam Payne, has died at the age of 31 after a tragic fall from a hotel in Buenos Aires. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in the Palermo district, according to local authorities.

Sources indicate Payne fell from the third floor of the upscale Casa Sur hotel. Emergency responders were called to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. local time. Despite their quick arrival, medical officials confirmed that Payne had sustained fatal injuries. “There was no possibility of resuscitation,” said Alberto Crescenti, director of Buenos Aires’ emergency services.

Payne was in the Argentine capital just days after attending a concert by his former bandmate, Niall Horan. One Direction, formed in 2010 on the British TV show The X Factor, quickly rose to global fame with a string of hits. Though the group went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016, Payne had embarked on a solo career, following in the steps of his fellow members.

The news has sent shockwaves through the entertainment world, with tributes flooding in for Payne—a musician who had captivated millions through his years in One Direction and as a solo artist.

As investigations continue into the circumstances of his fall, fans around the world mourn the loss of an icon gone far too soon.
