A tropical wave has triggered a severe weather advisory for several southern parishes, with heavy rains raising the risk of flooding in low-lying areas. The Meteorological Service of Jamaica announced the advisory on Wednesday, warning residents in St. Thomas, Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Elizabeth, and Westmoreland to prepare for potential flash floods.
This advisory is set to remain in effect until 5:00 PM Thursday, as meteorologists track the tropical wave’s movement west of Jamaica. The wave is interacting with a low-pressure system in the southwestern Caribbean, increasing the likelihood of widespread downpours and thunderstorms, particularly in southern regions.
Weather conditions are expected to remain unstable, with rainfall persisting through Friday morning. Authorities are urging those in vulnerable areas to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
Marine activities on the south coast are also at risk, with rough seas and high winds expected to create hazardous conditions. Fishermen and others working at sea are advised to take extra caution and avoid unnecessary outings until the weather improves.
