The new representative for St Ann North Eastern, was officially sworn in as a Member of Parliament on Tuesday in a ceremony at Gordon House. This follows his recent victory in the September 30 by-election.
Samuda took the Oath of Allegiance in the afternoon, marking his first step as a sitting member of the House of Representatives. Following the formal proceedings, he received warm welcomes from both sides of the political aisle, including congratulations from Edmund Bartlett, Leader of Government Business, and Phillip Paulwell, Leader of Opposition Business.
In his brief remarks, Samuda expressed his commitment to advocating for the people of his constituency and highlighted his readiness to serve. He also extended his appreciation to Marsha Smith, the outgoing representative, whose resignation paved the way for the by-election that led to his election.
Previously, Samuda served in the Jamaican Senate for the Jamaica Labour Party, bringing legislative experience to his new role in the lower house. Now, as the MP for St Ann North Eastern, Samuda is set to begin his term with a focus on addressing the needs of his community.
