Old Harbour United Football Club has executed a structural pivot that reshapes its competitive footprint, confirming the acquisition of Jamaica Premier League outfit Spanish Town Police FC while withdrawing from senior parish competition.

The St Catherine Division One champions will step away from participation in the St Catherine Major League, effectively surrendering their title. The club will instead reposition itself as a full-scale football academy, concentrating resources on youth training, education, and long-term player development.

Club officials described the move as a deliberate shift toward sustainability, aimed at strengthening the regional football pipeline rather than short-term competition. The revamped academy will emphasize technical proficiency, discipline, and holistic athlete development, while acting as a feeder and support system for Spanish Town Police FC under its new ownership structure.

Old Harbour United also acknowledged the St Catherine Football Association, players, coaches, supporters, and community stakeholders for their role in the club’s progression to date, signaling a clean transition into its next phase.

Spanish Town Police FC, established in 1977, are experiencing their inaugural season in Jamaica’s top flight after qualifying for the 2025–2026 campaign. The debut has been difficult. The team sits at the foot of the 14-team table with eight points from 14 matches, having recorded just two wins so far.

Relegation pressure is mounting, with Spanish Town Police four points adrift of Chapelton Maroons and fellow newcomers Treasure Beach FC. Despite the standings, wins against Waterhouse FC and Treasure Beach FC have shown flashes of competitiveness.

The integration with Old Harbour United introduces new administrative backing and developmental infrastructure, offering Spanish Town Police a potential lifeline as the season enters its decisive stretch. Whether the restructured ownership can translate into on-field recovery remains to be seen, but the club’s survival push now carries renewed strategic weight.
