The committal hearing for Shamoya Green, accused of causing the death of her five-month-old daughter by allegedly throwing her from the roof of a three-storey building, has been postponed to September 30.

This hearing is necessary to facilitate the case’s transfer to the St James Circuit Court. The new date was announced by Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton during a session at the St James Parish Court on Thursday.

During the hearing, it was disclosed that the case was not yet ready for transfer due to the absence of an assessor’s report concerning a child witness who was allegedly present during the tragic incident. This report is crucial for determining the child’s capability to testify.

When the case was previously called on September 4, a medical report dated July 22, 2024, indicated that Green was unfit to enter a plea. This report revealed that she is grappling with a seizure disorder accompanied by psychosis.

As a result of her health issues, Green, who is currently in custody at the South Camp Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston, is expected to participate in the upcoming court session virtually via Zoom.

Green’s mental health challenges first became apparent during her initial court appearance on March 6, 2024, when she reported hearing voices of her children calling out to her. She also collapsed in the dock but was subsequently revived, prompting the court to order a psychiatric evaluation.

Details surrounding the incident emerged from reports stating that on December 6, 2023, at approximately 5:35 pm, Green was at home with her common-law partner and other relatives. It was alleged that she requested a discussion with her partner about their relationship, but he declined to engage at that moment, suggesting they talk later that evening.

In a fit of rage, Green reportedly exited the room with her baby and ascended to the roof, where she threw the infant onto the concrete surface below.

Green was formally charged with murder on Saturday, February 24, following the tragic event.
