MANCHESTER, Jamaica — The scoreboard read 9-0, but the gulf in quality between Manchester High and DeCarteret College was far more staggering than numbers could convey. Jevohntae Gordon continued his ruthless streak with a second consecutive hat-trick, spearheading Manchester High’s demolition job on Tuesday afternoon in what has now become a four-game goal-fest for the Zone F leaders.
Alongside Gordon, Orane Wright also bagged three, as Manchester’s attack once again fired on all cylinders. The defending zone champions have now racked up an imposing 25 goals without conceding once, issuing a loud warning to any school dreaming of daCosta Cup glory this season.
Elsewhere in the competition, the pecking order is beginning to crystallize. Christiana High, Alphansus Davis, Ocho Rios, and Port Antonio all notched their fourth straight victories, moving to 12 points apiece and joining Manchester at the summit of their respective zones. Brandon Satchwell led Christiana with a four-goal masterclass in a 6-0 dismantling of Alston High, while Port Antonio’s 5-0 win over Iona High saw five different names on the scoresheet, underlining their squad depth.
The only surprise of the day came in the west, where Cornwall College edged previously undefeated Maldon High 1-0 despite being reduced to ten men. A fifth-minute strike from Ameche Robinson sealed the points before top scorer Corlando Morris saw red late in the game. Heavy rainfall and a gritty defensive stand defined what was otherwise a cagey affair.
In Zone J, the clash between unbeaten McGrath and Old Harbour turned into a statement game, with McGrath obliterating their rivals 6-0 to seize control of the group. Dinthill Technical, coached by the ever-strategic Lenworth Hyde, also put on a show with an 8-0 battering of Tacius Golding High—highlighted by braces from Omarion Small and Leon Reynolds.
Meanwhile, Cedric Titus and William Knibb each recorded a third consecutive win, setting up a tantalizing head-to-head showdown later this week. Their form has been consistent, with Cedric Titus blanking Troy High 4-0 and Knibb brushing aside Muschett High 3-1.
Wednesday’s fixture list features title holders Garvey Maceo and perennial powerhouse Glenmuir High, both eyeing their third wins. With the early-season table shaping up fast, every point—and every goal—now carries weight.
As the competition advances, one thing is clear: this year’s daCosta Cup isn’t just about winning—it’s about asserting dominance early, and Manchester High is making that statement louder than anyone else.
