PORT MARIA, St Mary — A 31-year-old man accused of murdering beloved early childhood educator Angella Hamilton remains in custody after a court appearance this week.

Delroy Palmer, also known by the aliases Swag Boss and Basco, was remanded when he appeared in the St Mary Parish Court on Thursday. He is scheduled to return on November 6.

Hamilton, who served as principal of Richmond Hill Basic School, was discovered brutally stabbed inside her home in Pear Tree Grove earlier this year. The incident, which occurred in January, stunned the quiet St Mary community and marked the parish’s first murder of the year.

According to investigators, Palmer was apprehended in August during a targeted police operation in Harmony Hall, Highgate. Forensic analysis reportedly tied him to the crime scene through DNA evidence.

The case carries a chilling undertone: Palmer is said to have known the victim since childhood, having once been her student. Police sources have also confirmed he holds a criminal record.

Hamilton had recently returned from her first overseas trip to visit her daughter. Her lifeless body was discovered by a concerned family friend after repeated calls to her phone went unanswered. She was found in a pool of blood inside the house, having suffered multiple stab wounds.

The community, still reeling from the loss, now awaits the next phase of the case as it returns to court in November.
