When William “Meekie” Virgo steps into the studio, he carries more than just rhythm — he carries the memory of Jamaica. His latest single, Home Sweet Home, emerges as both a celebration and a reminder: a call to cherish the island’s culture, beauty, and enduring spirit.
The track arrives with a vibrant video that mirrors the music’s energy — a blend of deep percussion, smooth saxophone runs, and reggae’s timeless pulse. Meekie doesn’t just perform; he reconnects listeners to Jamaica’s roots, especially to his own parish of St. Thomas. A standout line, “Take a look in the manual of life,” reinforces his message of reflection and pride in one’s heritage.
Though now based in the United States, Meekie’s bond with Jamaica has never loosened. His musical career spans over two decades, shaped by icons like Bob Marley, Gregory Isaacs, and Dennis Brown. With Home Sweet Home, he fuses old-school authenticity with today’s reggae sound, crafting a piece meant to resonate with both the diaspora and those firmly planted on Jamaican soil.
“Jamaica is the foundation,” Meekie explains. “Every return brings renewal — family, food, rivers, beaches, vibes. For those who live here, it’s everyday life. For those who left, it’s a homecoming.”
The project was brought to life by Steven Ellis of Majestic Productions, whose own path back to music is a story of rediscovery. Once immersed in corporate banking, Ellis found himself drawn again to his youthful passion for sound systems and live shows. Out of that revival came Majestic Productions, and eventually the collaboration with Meekie.
Ellis recalls the moment clearly: “When I heard the first line, ‘no place like home,’ I knew this song carried weight. It instantly pulled me back to St. Thomas. Everyone I played it for agreed — it was a hit waiting to happen.”
The official launch unfolded at Dubwise Café on Lady Musgrave Road, where music, visuals, and community met in a celebration of culture.
For Meekie Virgo, Home Sweet Home isn’t just another single; it’s a statement — that Jamaica’s heartbeat, no matter where life takes you, will always echo louder than distance.
