Member of Parliament for Manchester Central, Rhoda Moy Crawford, has voiced strong condemnation of the recent wave of gun violence in the parish, describing the situation as “disturbing.” In a public statement issued on Thursday, Crawford expressed solidarity with her constituents, urging them to remain resolute in the face of lawlessness.
Acknowledging the rising concerns within the community, she stated, “As Member of Parliament for Central Manchester, I stand in solidarity with my well-thinking and law-abiding constituents and stakeholders who are alarmed by the recent flare-up of violence. Several disturbing incidents have been reported, resulting in the tragic loss of five lives in recent days.”
Crawford empathized with the fear and anxiety currently gripping residents, while also calling on them to remain strong in their commitment to oppose criminal elements. “We must never allow criminals and those who seek to wreak havoc in our beloved parish to paralyze us or weaken our resolve,” she emphasized.
The recent spate of violence has indeed left the parish on edge, with at least five murders and several injuries reported in a matter of days. The most recent incident took place Thursday morning, when a man was shot during what police believe was a gang-related shootout in Greenvale, Mandeville.
In her address, Crawford reassured the public that law enforcement agencies are mobilizing all available resources to bring the perpetrators to justice. She stated, “The security forces, with support from the Government, are working diligently to identify those responsible for these violent acts and to restore safety and normality to the affected communities as swiftly as possible.”
Crawford also urged residents to come forward with any information that could assist the police in their investigations. “We cannot allow this violence to become our new normal,” she stressed, adding that collective action is essential in restoring peace and order to Manchester.
The MP’s call to action highlights the importance of community cooperation in the fight against crime, as well as her commitment to maintaining safety and security for all residents of Manchester Central.
