JACK’S HILL, St Andrew — What began as a quiet Monday morning in the cool heights of Jack’s Hill erupted into gunfire, leaving five men dead and a wave of unease rippling through the upscale community.
Authorities say a special unit from the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch (CTOC) was deployed to the area following intelligence reports of heavily armed men operating out of a secluded location. What unfolded, according to police, was a sudden and violent exchange.
Gunshots cracked through the hills as lawmen attempted to approach the premises. Moments later, five men were down. None have yet been publicly identified.
In the aftermath, police reported the seizure of four illegal firearms—part of what appears to be a broader sweep targeting criminal syndicates believed to be shifting operations into quieter, less conspicuous enclaves.
The incident has reignited debates about the reach of criminal networks into highland residential zones and the shifting geography of organized crime. While investigations continue, the message from law enforcement is clear: there are no safe havens.
An official statement on the engagement, as well as forensic confirmation of the weapons seized, is expected in the coming days.
