KINGSTON, Jamaica —
A quiet Sunday in Rae Town erupted into chaos when a family quarrel turned lethal, ending with both the victim and the alleged attacker dead and police protocols under intense review.

What investigators know so far

  • Time & place: Roughly 3:15 p.m. near James Street, Rae Town.
  • Victim: Niesha Williams, 43, reportedly received multiple stab wounds during a confrontation inside a family yard.
  • Suspect: A male cousin identified only as “Rashad,” believed to be in his late twenties.

Eyewitnesses say Williams staggered onto the road seeking help before neighbours rushed her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Rapid police response

Patrol units from Kingston Eastern Division converged on the area after frantic 119 calls. Officers located the suspect less than two blocks away. According to the initial briefing, he advanced on the team with a blade in hand. The officers discharged their weapons; the man died at the scene.

Next steps

  • The Independent Commission of Investigations has collected service firearms and launched its standard review.
  • Crime-scene technicians are processing two locations: the family residence and the street where the shooting occurred.
  • Relatives and neighbours are being interviewed to clarify the sequence of events and any prior disputes.

Community reaction

Residents expressed shock, noting that the cousins were often seen together and had no public record of hostility. Community groups are organising a candlelight vigil and offering counselling for affected families.

Police urge anyone with additional information to contact the Kingston Eastern CIB or call 311.
