Caymanas Park is setting the stage for a groundbreaking racing season with the debut of the Ian Levy Cup on April 5. This new addition to the “Win and You’re In” series marks a fresh opportunity for competitors to secure their ticket to the season’s headline event, the Mouttet Mile Invitational.
This year’s racing calendar has been reimagined with a suite of high-profile Grade 1 races. The series now features:
- The Jamaica Derby – a 12-furlong battle on August 6,
- The Philip Feanny OD Gold Cup – a fast-paced 7-furlong contest on October 4,
- The Jamaica Cup – stretching 9½ furlongs on November 8,
- The Port Royal Sprint – a dynamic 6-furlong showdown also on November 8.
The Ian Levy Cup is the latest jewel in this crown, providing an innovative pathway into the elite Mouttet Mile Invitational.
Solomon Sharpe, Executive Chairman of Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), shared his excitement about the new beginning. “Introducing the Ian Levy Cup opens up a year-long journey toward our marquee race. It creates multiple entry points for horsemen and elevates the importance of every race throughout the season,” he explained.
The Mouttet Mile Invitational, a race exclusively for native-bred and imported three-year-olds and up, spans one mile (1,600 meters) and has become synonymous with record-breaking purses in the English-speaking Caribbean. The 2025 edition will feature a historic purse of US$300,000, setting a new benchmark for the event.
Scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025, the fourth running of the Mouttet Mile will see a competitive field of up to 16 horses. Entries are split evenly between local contenders (with eight spots reserved for horses domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, 2025) and international challengers. Additionally, one position from the international allocation is set aside exclusively for a New York Racing Association (NYRA)-based entrant.
“By continually innovating our format, with the addition of the Ian Levy Cup and a dedicated NYRA slot, we are ensuring that the 2025 Mouttet Mile will be the most exhilarating edition yet,” Sharpe added.
Owners and trainers interested in participating must submit their letters of intent by September 30, 2025. Early submissions are highly recommended as the event’s popularity continues to soar, drawing enthusiastic crowds and boosting Jamaica’s sports tourism scene.
With each season, the Mouttet Mile cements its status as a pivotal event in international racing, following on the heels of previous thrilling contests and unforgettable finishes.
