In a recent evaluation of Curaçao’s general election, a Caribbean Community (Caricom) mission praised the conduct of the vote for its clarity and adherence to established rules. The observation team, which arrived following an invitation from Curaçao’s Supreme Election Council, spent the day assessing all phases of the electoral process.

The mission, composed of three seasoned observers, carefully monitored the start of voting, the procedures at polling stations, and the methods used for vote tallying. Their initial findings indicate that each stage of the election was executed in line with the official guidelines, ensuring a fair and orderly process.

One of the observers remarked, “Our preliminary review shows that the election was managed efficiently, with no significant issues to report.” This observation comes after the ruling party, Movementu Futuro Kòrsou (MFK), achieved a historic victory by securing 55% of the votes—a first for any single party in Curaçao’s history.

A comprehensive report, including suggestions for further strengthening electoral practices, will soon be submitted to Caricom’s Secretary-General. As Curaçao continues to evolve its democratic practices, these insights promise to play a vital role in shaping future elections on the island.
