In a bid to reinforce its emergency preparedness, Norman Manley International Airport will stage a comprehensive crisis simulation this Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The planned exercise will mimic an on-site aircraft emergency, enabling the airport’s response teams and partner agencies to test their coordination and readiness in a controlled yet realistic scenario.

Theresa Benjamin, Director of Operations at PAC Kingston Airport Limited (PACKAL), explained that the drill is part of an ongoing commitment to enhance safety protocols. “Regular, rigorous exercises like this one allow us to evaluate our procedures and ensure that all involved agencies can work seamlessly during an actual emergency,” Benjamin stated.

The simulation will involve a diverse array of emergency services, including fire, police, and medical units, all responding together as they would in a real crisis. The exercise aims to assess communication efficiency, rapid decision-making, and the overall effectiveness of the integrated emergency response framework.

Motorists in the vicinity of the airport are advised to remain vigilant due to increased emergency vehicle activity on major access routes. While the exercise is essential for honing safety measures, airport officials assure the public that there is no cause for alarm and that normal routines can continue uninterrupted.

This proactive approach reflects NMIA’s dedication to maintaining high safety standards for both travelers and staff, reinforcing the airport’s role as a leader in emergency readiness.
