After facing a near-death battle with COVID-19 complications, reggae singer StaceyAnn is stepping back into the spotlight with renewed purpose. Her journey, marked by resilience, self-discovery, and a deep love for music, has transformed her into a beacon of inspiration.
Her ordeal began in December 2022, when she contracted COVID-19 for the third time. The illness left her struggling with severe respiratory issues, leading to multiple hospitalizations across the United States and Jamaica. Despite undergoing countless tests, doctors struggled to diagnose the root cause of her deteriorating health.
“I was terrified. No one could figure out what was wrong with me, and my condition kept getting worse,” she recalled. “At one point, I was in Annotto Bay Hospital in Jamaica, watching another patient take their last breath beside me. That moment changed everything. I realized I had to fight for my life.”
Determined not to let the unknown dictate her fate, StaceyAnn became her own advocate—researching alternative treatments, making lifestyle changes, and seeking guidance from a network of doctors, including Dr. Joseph Wilson in Jamaica and U.S.-based specialists Dr. Melissa Marballie and Dr. Roshan Bashir.
After nearly two years of persistence, she finally began to feel like herself again. And with that recovery came a renewed determination to chase her passion for music, this time with unwavering commitment.
“I once gave up on music, but never again. My struggles have only made me stronger, and I refuse to let fear hold me back. This year, I’m stepping into my power and using my voice to uplift others,” she affirmed.
Her latest single, Life (Choose to Stay), is a direct reflection of her journey—an anthem of survival and hope. Released in February, the song has been met with an outpouring of emotional responses from listeners who resonate deeply with its message.
“People have literally cried when they hear Life. They tell me it feels like a lifeline, like something they needed to hear,” she shared.
Born Stacey Ann Mirander, the singer spent her early years in Marlie Mount, Old Harbour, St. Catherine, before moving to Mitchell Town, Clarendon. A graduate of Clarendon College, she later pursued higher education at the University of Phoenix in the United States.
Her love for music was sparked at age six when she delivered an impromptu performance at a Dub Club event at Old Harbour Primary School, captivating the crowd. That moment set the stage for a lifetime of passion, leading her to perform at crusades and community events throughout her early years.
After rediscovering songwriting in 2020, StaceyAnn co-wrote Love, Wonderful, Love with Sanchez, which appeared on the album HeartCrafted. Encouraged by producer Bulby York and Solomon “Triple Ess” Salmon, she later stepped into the studio for her first solo release, Hear Oh Lord, featured on York’s 2023 album Time and Color.
Now, she’s working on her debut EP, crafting music that blends reggae with global influences, creating a unique and expressive sound.
“When I’m on stage, I become a different version of myself—fearless, expressive, and completely in tune with the music. My goal is to bring something fresh and meaningful to the industry,” she said.
With upcoming performances and new projects on the horizon, StaceyAnn is inviting fans to join her journey.
