The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) convened its annual general meeting (AGM) on Sunday at the St. Kitts Marriott, St. Kitts, where significant strides were made in shaping the future of the organization. The AGM, held in conjunction with the Women’s Super50 tournament, gave members a unique chance to reflect on the association’s accomplishments while welcoming new leadership dynamics.
In a unanimous decision, WIPA members voted to re-elect the current executive team for another term, set to extend until 2027. Wavell Hinds, the association’s long-standing president since 2011, was re-elected unopposed for his seventh consecutive term. Hinds will continue to lead alongside Vice-President Nixon McLean, Honorary Secretary Wayne Lewis, Assistant Secretary Liam Sebastien, and Treasurer Ridley Jacobs, ensuring consistent direction at the helm.
A notable highlight of the AGM was the appointment of Rashada Williams as WIPA’s second-ever female non-elected director. This groundbreaking move further strengthens the association’s commitment to diversity and gender representation in leadership roles, as Williams joins Shakera Selman on the board, contributing fresh perspectives to the decision-making process.
In a statement following the AGM, WIPA President and CEO Wavell Hinds expressed heartfelt appreciation for the confidence the membership continues to place in him and his team. “I am deeply honored by the trust and responsibility given to us, and I remain committed to prioritizing the well-being of our players,” said Hinds. “I also extend a warm welcome to Ms. Rashada Williams, and I look forward to working alongside our entire executive team as we continue to move WIPA forward.”
