BELMOPAN, Belize – The European Union (EU) has awarded Belize a US$2 million grant to accelerate digital transformation and economic growth, reinforcing an ongoing initiative backed by a US$10 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

This funding will strengthen Belize’s national digital strategy, particularly in assisting Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in their digital adoption efforts. The Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Investment, Civil Aviation, and Immigration is overseeing the project, aiming to empower businesses with digital tools that enhance efficiency and competitiveness.

More than 250 businesses are set to benefit directly, while at least 20 individuals—50% of whom are women—will receive specialized training in digital skills through intensive boot camps. These programs will equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge and resources needed to integrate digital solutions into their operations.

The EU’s contribution will further stimulate private sector demand for digital services, encourage the adoption of digital payments, and drive technological innovation across industries. MSMEs will leverage these advancements to increase revenue, optimize business processes, and enhance customer engagement through cutting-edge digital tools.

This collaboration between the EU and IDB reflects a shared commitment to fostering economic resilience and inclusive growth. The initiative aligns with the Global Gateway Investment Agenda, reinforcing Belize’s role in the evolving digital economy and paving the way for long-term sustainable development.
