The return of direct flights between Lima, Peru, and Montego Bay has sparked a significant surge in visitors from Latin America to RIU Resorts Jamaica, reinforcing the island’s appeal as a top Caribbean destination.
According to Niurka Garcia Linton, Director of Sales at RIU Resorts Jamaica, the increase in flight availability has translated to higher occupancy rates across several of the chain’s seven properties in Jamaica. “Since LATAM Airlines resumed operations in December, we’ve seen remarkable growth in bookings, with some properties experiencing double and even triple-digit increases,” she revealed.
Latin American travelers, particularly from Argentina, have long been a key market for RIU. The resort chain has tailored its services to cater to these guests, ensuring a welcoming experience with Spanish-speaking staff, Latin-themed entertainment, and cultural familiarity. “Visitors from the region love the authentic Jamaican experience—our music, beaches, and cuisine—but they also appreciate touches of home, which is why we host Latin-themed shows weekly,” Garcia Linton noted.
She also emphasized that word-of-mouth has been a major driver of growth, as satisfied guests share their experiences and encourage more Latin American travelers to choose Jamaica.
Garcia Linton’s remarks came during a media tour of the newly renovated RIU Negril, which reopened last month following an extensive four-month refurbishment. The five-star beachfront property now features 600 modernized rooms, including 28 luxury swim-up suites for a more exclusive stay. The resort has also introduced new dining experiences, such as an “American Country” themed restaurant, and expanded entertainment offerings, including RIU’s signature party events.
With the addition of three new restaurants, bringing the total to eight, RIU Negril continues to offer a diverse culinary experience, from casual eats at “Pepe’s Food” to authentic Mexican fare at the “Tiki Taco” station.
Originally opened in 2004, RIU Negril remains a premier all-inclusive resort, evolving to meet the demands of a growing international audience. As Jamaica strengthens its airlift capacity, RIU Resorts is poised to welcome even more travelers seeking a mix of tropical relaxation and vibrant cultural experiences.
