Jamaica is setting its sights on global markets with a bold initiative to elevate its agricultural exports. The newly expanded ‘Eat Jamaican Global Campaign’ seeks to bring the vibrant flavors of Jamaica to key diaspora hubs in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The campaign, which recently kicked off in Florida, aims to connect international consumers with the rich diversity of Jamaican produce while fostering greater awareness of its authenticity. Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Mining, Floyd Green, unveiled this ambitious agenda during a recent event at the Ministry’s Hope Complex in Kingston.

“The launch in South Florida is just the beginning,” Green shared. “Throughout the coming year, we plan to establish a strong presence in major diaspora regions like New York, Toronto, and London, all culminating in our Eat Jamaican 2025 vision.”

A Global Call for Authenticity

As Jamaican products continue to gain international recognition for their quality and distinct flavors, the campaign is also focused on addressing a persistent challenge: counterfeit goods falsely marketed as Jamaican.

“Our diaspora needs the tools to differentiate between authentic Jamaican goods and imitations,” Green emphasized. “We’re working on strategies to support this, including partnerships with consulates and a database of verified vendors and restaurants offering genuine Jamaican items.”

The initiative also has a strong educational component aimed at empowering consumers abroad to make informed choices about the origin of their food.

Investing in Jamaica’s Future

Beyond promoting exports, the campaign is laying the groundwork for increased investment in Jamaica’s agricultural industry. The government is actively encouraging members of the diaspora to participate in initiatives such as new agro-parks and other emerging opportunities.

“We believe that eating Jamaican starts with growing Jamaican,” Green explained. “This is an exciting time to invest, and our diaspora is uniquely positioned to help us transform the agricultural landscape.”

The government’s efforts to connect with the Jamaican diaspora reflect a broader strategy to bolster national exports, protect the integrity of local produce, and attract investment that will strengthen the country’s agricultural future.

As the campaign continues to expand globally, it aims to create lasting ties between Jamaica’s farmers and the international market, ensuring the legacy of Jamaican agriculture thrives on the world stage.
