In a heartfelt gesture this holiday season, international dancehall group Tribe Of Kings (T.O.K) is providing prefab homes to two Jamaican families affected by Hurricane Melissa. The initiative, aimed at restoring stability and security, underscores the group’s commitment to supporting communities beyond their music.
The homes, sourced from MVP Imports Limited, were funded through the proceeds of T.O.K’s successful Japan tour held from November 21–24. Local partners, including Jamaica Festival (JAMAFES), played a pivotal role in facilitating the group’s return to the island for the tour.
Craig “Craigy T” Thompson, one of the group’s members, emphasized the deeper meaning behind the gift. “A home is more than just four walls; it’s the heartbeat of daily life. It’s where families recover, grow, and create memories. We wanted to give something lasting, something that makes a real difference,” he shared.
Prefab homes, or modular dwellings, are constructed off-site in factory-controlled conditions before being transported and assembled at their destination. This method ensures efficiency, durability, and quality, allowing families to move into a ready-made, stable living space in a short time.
The selection process for recipients will be based on local referrals and social media recommendations, Craigy T explained. “We’re working with trusted contacts on the ground to ensure that the homes go to those most in need. It’s not just about placing the structure; we need to make sure the foundation is solid and the home is safe,” he added.
Reflecting on the year, Craigy T noted that 2025 presented challenges for many, but resilience remains a defining trait of the Jamaican spirit. “No matter what comes our way, we rise. Family, community, and faith are what keep us standing tall,” he said.
As the festive season continues, the group plans to enjoy a brief period of rest and celebration with loved ones before resuming their creative and touring schedule in 2026. “This Christmas, we celebrate not just with music, but with family, with purpose, and with a commitment to give back. The work starts again next year, stronger than ever,” Craigy T concluded.
