In the wake of widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, the JN Group has mobilized a full-scale recovery response aimed at cushioning the economic and infrastructural blow felt by its members island-wide. Rather than mere symbolic gestures, the Group is deploying a wide range of practical relief solutions—from relaxed lending terms to fee waivers—designed to inject liquidity, preserve dignity, and restore normalcy.

Fast-Tracked Loan Support Without the Red Tape

JN Bank is rolling out streamlined access to funds for immediate repairs and critical purchases. Applicants seeking readvance or cash-secured loans will bypass traditional roadblocks such as income verification, property valuation reports, or processing fees. Disbursements are expected to hit accounts within five to seven business days—a critical timeline for those grappling with structural damage and disrupted living conditions.

A parallel home repair loan program is also being deployed, granting mortgagors access to up to 85% of their property equity, capped at $15 million, at a reduced interest rate of 8.75%. These funds can be repurposed for disaster-proofing infrastructure such as water tanks and solar installations.

For members with homes completely compromised, a special construction loan has been unlocked, offering up to 95% financing over the course of the next year. This is not relief in theory—it’s a blueprint for rebuilding.

Small Borrowers and Microbusinesses Not Left Behind

JN Bank’s microfinance arm is offering no-collateral loans and recovery-specific funding up to $1.5 million to individuals and microbusinesses. Some applicants in severely hit zones will also qualify for direct grants, offering a temporary lifeline while operations regain footing.

Temporary Freeze on Banking Fees and Penalties

For a limited period, JN Bank customers will benefit from a suspension of numerous charges. These include:

  • No cost for ATM withdrawals.
  • Free debit/credit card replacements.
  • Waived over-the-counter transaction fees in hardest-hit parishes.
  • Free incoming bank transfers.
  • Zero penalties for early fixed deposit closures.
  • No late or penalty fees on loan and credit card repayments for affected customers.

This proactive stance allows customers to focus on recovery, not accumulating charges during already turbulent times.

Remittance Fee Waivers and Diaspora-Funded Relief

JN Money has taken the additional step of removing transfer fees on all remittances to Jamaica through November 6, making it easier for overseas relatives to offer direct assistance. In parallel, the company has activated a specialized channel—tied to the ISupportJamaica Fund—for those wishing to donate towards the national recovery effort. Contributions in cash and kind (via Food for the Poor) are now being coordinated at key JN Money branches across the UK and Jamaica.

A Unified Front in Rebuilding

Horace Hines, General Manager of JN Money Services, summed up the approach with conviction: “This is not a moment for half measures. It’s a time to meet hardship with action, not promises. Our people are resilient, but they cannot be left to weather this storm alone. JN is showing up.”

From low-friction loan access to diasporic donation coordination, the JN Group isn’t simply reacting to disaster—it is scripting a national comeback strategy.
