Authorities are on heightened alert as a developing weather system in the central Caribbean shows signs of strengthening, prompting a tropical storm watch across the island.

Meteorological data from various tracking sources indicate that the disturbance—currently hovering over open waters—has begun organizing itself into a structured system, packing winds close to 72 km/h (45 mph). Forecast models suggest a continued increase in intensity, with the potential for formal classification as a tropical storm by nightfall.

The system is projected to slow its movement as it draws nearer to Jamaica, bringing with it heavy downpours and turbulent winds. Northeastern and southern parishes are expected to experience the brunt of the conditions by late Wednesday into Thursday, with rainfall likely to persist into the weekend.

Maritime conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly. Widespread thunderstorms and strong winds are predicted across all marine zones, with the southern coastal waters expected to be hit hardest.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) and the Meteorological Service have jointly issued urgent warnings to fishers stationed on cays and offshore banks to evacuate immediately. Small vessel operators are strongly advised to seek safe harbor and remain docked until the all-clear is given.

While the formation of a cyclone is not yet confirmed, officials stress that the probability is increasing, and Jamaicans are urged to take the warnings seriously. The Meteorological Service has committed to ongoing surveillance and promises timely updates as the system evolves.

Citizens are encouraged to secure their homes, stock up on essentials, and remain vigilant as the island braces for potentially severe weather in the coming days.
