MANCHESTER, JAMAICA — Police are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body in a rural section of George Reid on Monday, after residents followed a strong odor to an overgrown patch of land.

According to law enforcement, the body was recovered from a ditch in heavy bushland mid-afternoon. Firefighters were called in to assist with removal, while undertakers secured the remains for post-mortem examination.

Relatives believe the deceased is 46-year-old Marlon Corinthian, a resident of the area who had been reported missing after last being seen on September 20. The missing person’s report was filed days later when family and friends noticed his absence.

Preliminary accounts suggest residents cut through thick vegetation after detecting the smell. A search party member made the initial discovery, leading to a police response.

Family members told investigators that Corinthian had a history of mental illness and often roamed nearby lands gathering plants. One relative said concern grew when food left for him at his home remained untouched.

No signs of foul play have been publicly disclosed. Police have indicated that a formal identification and autopsy will determine the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
