ST JAMES, JAMAICA — A man employed as a butler is now facing serious charges after being linked to a high-stakes robbery that unfolded in the parish earlier this year.
The accused, 31-year-old Nicoy Ramsay, known by the alias “Nick” and hailing from Esher in Hanover, has been formally charged with robbery with aggravation and unlawful wounding. His arrest stems from a brazen attack that occurred on a major commercial route in St James on the night of June 17.
According to investigators, around 8:30 p.m., two employees of a well-known trading company were en route in a delivery truck when they were ambushed at the intersection of Upper Bevon Avenue and Market Circle. Ramsay and another man — both allegedly armed — are reported to have carried out the assault, stealing $7 million in cash from the vehicle.
The robbery turned violent when one of the perpetrators struck the truck’s driver, inflicting a bleeding injury during the encounter. Despite the trauma, the victims were able to alert law enforcement shortly after the ordeal, triggering a full-scale investigation by detectives in St James.
After weeks of tracking, Ramsay voluntarily turned himself in at the Negril Police Station on September 17, accompanied by legal counsel. He was transferred to St James authorities, where he was later positively identified during an ID parade and charged accordingly.
As of now, the authorities are finalizing arrangements for his initial court appearance. Investigations remain active as law enforcement continues efforts to locate the second suspect involved in the heist.
