Caymanas Park witnessed a shock to the system on Saturday as longshot Champion Bubbler delivered a bold, front-stretch ambush in the Reggae Trophy, rewriting the script on what was expected to be a routine win for the favourites.
Trained by the experienced Spencer Chung, the six-year-old bay mare—sent off at 10-1—ignored the odds and dismantled the competition with a clean, calculated run. Apprentice Tajay Suckoo timed it perfectly, unleashing the mare in the final furlong with a decisive kick that left crowd-favourite Pack Plays and consistent runner Is That A Fact scrambling behind.
It wasn’t just a win—it was a warning. Clocking 59.1 seconds over the straight 1,000 metres, Champion Bubbler made it clear she’s not just part of the field—she’s one to beat.
For Suckoo, it was more than a lucky break. The young jockey is building momentum, notching two wins on the day, while trainer Adrian Prince quietly swept up three victories across the card, adding depth to a day defined by unexpected turns.
Saturday’s races proved that reputation means little once the gates fly open. As Sunday’s card approaches, all eyes will be on the next surprise waiting to happen.
