KINGSTON, Jamaica — A new chapter in Jamaica’s boxing ambitions begins today as Elise Seignolle, President of the Pan American Boxing Confederation, embarks on her first official visit to the island.

Seignolle’s arrival signals increased regional attention on Jamaica’s evolving boxing programme. During her five-day stay, she will attend the Gloves Over Guns Futures event, a key showcase set for Saturday at the Stanley Couch Gym, where Jamaican fighters will face opponents from the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom.

The visit highlights Jamaica’s rising profile, following closely on the heels of the historic World Boxing presidential visit earlier this year. According to Jamaica Boxing Association (JBA) head Stephen Jones, Seignolle’s presence points to deeper investment in the country’s boxing infrastructure.

“Jamaica is no longer just participating — we’re shaping the future of boxing in the region,” said Jones.

A former competitive boxer herself, Seignolle brings firsthand knowledge of the ring to her leadership role. Since being elected earlier this year, she has prioritized growing boxing across the Americas and encouraging member nations to take on greater leadership roles internationally.

Over the coming days, Seignolle is expected to meet with local sporting authorities, tour training sites, and explore partnership opportunities aimed at nurturing Jamaica’s next generation of fighters.

Jones believes the visit will accelerate Jamaica’s emergence as a strategic boxing hub for the Caribbean and beyond.

“This is a statement moment for Jamaica,” he said. “We’re stepping into a new era.”
