Kenneth Thompson, a forward-thinking producer and the driving force behind Kenergi Music Entertainment, is breaking new ground in the dancehall scene with his latest venture. Partnering with the legendary Sanchez—a name synonymous with timeless hits—Thompson has helped bring a fresh sound to the forefront with the album Jamdown, which dropped on April 11 under the VPAL Music label.
This release marks a significant comeback for Sanchez, whose last album, Love You More, was released in 2011 with production by Donovan Germain. Known for his enduring impact on dancehall-reggae over nearly four decades, Sanchez has built an impressive legacy with classics such as Loneliness, End of The World, Never dis di Man, I Can’t Wait, One In A Million, Fall in Love, and Old Friends.
In this innovative project, Thompson not only produced the album but also played a major role in shaping its creative direction. He is credited with writing or co-writing all 10 tracks on Jamdown, including standout songs like the energetic title track, Disloyalty, and the upbeat Hot Girls. His deep admiration for Sanchez, which has grown over many years, made the songwriting process both effortless and inspired.
The collaboration began when a mutual friend introduced Thompson to Sanchez, sparking an immediate creative connection. “I’ve always been a huge fan of Sanchez’s work and his professionalism. When the opportunity arose, his enthusiastic response confirmed that he was the perfect artist for this project,” Thompson shared. His approach for the album was deeply personal—infusing his own life experiences into the lyrics and blending them with pre-existing pieces that matched his vision. The result is an album that not only resonates with fans of dancehall but also pushes the genre into new artistic territories.
With Jamdown, Thompson and Sanchez have not only celebrated their rich musical histories but have also set the stage for a new era of creative expression in dancehall. Their collaboration stands as a testament to how seasoned artists can reinvent themselves and continue to produce music that connects deeply with audiences worldwide.
