In a spirited encounter at Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium, the Pakistan women’s cricket team secured an emphatic victory against the West Indies in their final tune-up ahead of the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Playing under clear skies on a well-prepared pitch, Pakistan showcased their strength and depth by efficiently chasing down the modest target set by the visitors. Batting first, the West Indies team managed to compile a total of 188 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Despite the notable contribution of Shabika Gajnabi, who remained unbeaten on 68 from 77 deliveries, and Jannillea Glasgow adding a resilient 41 runs, the batting line-up could not build a formidable total. The absence of key players, including their captain and other vital stars, seemed to have taken a toll on their performance.
Pakistan’s bowling unit, however, was in imperious form. Left-arm spinners Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sandu delivered disciplined performances, picking up crucial wickets and putting the brakes on the West Indies’ scoring opportunities. Their economical bowling laid the groundwork for the victory that was to come.
When it was Pakistan’s turn to bat, the team demonstrated both composure and determination. The duo of Vice-Captain Muneeba Ali and Natalia Parvaiz was instrumental in steering the innings, with Muneeba setting the stage by anchoring the chase with an impressive 87 runs off 113 balls. Natalia contributed a steady knock of 53 runs from 60 balls, ensuring that Pakistan’s momentum was maintained throughout the chase. Support from Gull Feroza, who chipped in with 28 valuable runs, further solidified the win.
This triumph marks Pakistan’s second successive warm-up success, following an earlier comprehensive win against Thailand. The performance not only boosts team morale but also reinforces the squad’s readiness as they gear up for the challenges of the upcoming qualifiers.
Looking ahead, the West Indies team will aim to regroup and refine their strategies before their opening qualifier match against Scotland Women, while Pakistan continues to build momentum as they set their sights on World Cup glory.
