With the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships set to take center stage at the National Stadium from Tuesday to Saturday, Holmwood Technical is embarking on a fresh, reinvigorated campaign to reclaim its past dominance in the girls’ events.

Head Coach Dave Anderson is leading this renewed charge with a strategy that emphasizes discreet preparation over the buzz of pre-event hype. “We decided to work quietly behind the scenes, refining our tactics and strengthening team unity,” Anderson explained. This approach has already borne fruit, as recent performances at regional meets have shown promising improvements, including a standout run at the Central Championships.

Despite the high expectations, Anderson remains pragmatic. “Every championship is a battle, and our focus is on making each performance count. We’re not fixated on points yet—we’re committed to delivering our best in every event,” he added.

At the forefront of this ambitious journey is Team Captain Kiara Meikle. Along with her, the dynamic contributions of standout athletes such as the Rose sisters—Jovi, Cindy, and Kerita—Florence Nafamba, Abrina Wright, and Tracey Evans are expected to play pivotal roles in the team’s quest for success.

Holmwood Technical, a school with a storied history in the championships, is eager to reestablish itself as a powerhouse. While acknowledging the stiff competition, Coach Anderson and his team are determined to harness their improved performance and strategic focus to turn the tables.

As the championships kick off, the team’s low-key preparation strategy is poised to translate into on-field excellence. Anderson’s message is clear: “We’re ready to rise to the challenge and seize every opportunity. It’s all about staying prepared and making the most of our performance each day.”

This week at the National Stadium, Holmwood Technical aims not just to compete, but to redefine their legacy and capture the championship title once more.
