In an electrifying finish on Saturday at Caymanas Park, Digital One, trained by Gary Subratie, seized her moment by turning a tight contest into a decisive win for the $1.75-million SVREL Eighth Anniversary Trophy.
The four-year-old bay filly, ridden by Dane Dawkins, made a spectacular late surge in the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance race for three-year-olds and older, covering five and a half furlongs (1,100m) with an impressive winning margin of five and a half lengths. On her seasonal debut, Digital One clocked a remarkable 1:06.0.
Positioned in third place at the half-mile mark (800m), the filly kept her composure behind the leading pair, California Crown and Bootylicious. As the pace slowed and both frontrunners drifted wide coming off the turn, Digital One seized the opening, cutting inside to blaze a straight path to the finish line.
The day was a winning one for trainer Anthony Nunes as well, who celebrated victories with three of his horses during the nine-race card. His successful entries included Brahma Bull in the fourth race with Tevin Foster up, Golden Syrup in the sixth race with Shane Richardson aboard, and Smart Trick in the final event with Shane Ellis leading the charge.
