Due to ongoing unrest in Spanish Town, VM Building Society (VMBS) has announced the temporary closure of its branch in the area on Thursday. In an effort to ensure customer safety, the financial institution has recommended visiting alternative locations for banking services.
“We understand the challenges our customers face in this situation and advise them to use our Portmore or Linstead branches for today,” the notice read. Additionally, clients are encouraged to manage their banking needs through the online portal at myvmoline.myvmgroup.com.
The closure follows a surge in violence triggered by the death of Othneil Lobban, the alleged leader of the One Order Gang, during a police operation late Wednesday night. The confrontation with members of the Joint Anti-Gang Task Force (JAGTF) resulted in Lobban’s death at Six Miles in St Andrew.
Since the incident, disturbances have erupted across Spanish Town, including an arson attack at a local store. In response, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) have been deployed to manage the situation, and the area is reportedly under control. However, authorities continue to monitor developments closely.
VMBS has assured customers that operations will resume once it is safe to do so and advised staying tuned for further updates.
