In light of recent violence in Spanish Town, Unicomer Jamaica has decided to temporarily close two of its key stores, Lucky Dollar and the Courts Bargain Centre, as a precautionary measure. This follows an incident where the Courts Bargain Centre was severely damaged by fire.

The fire, which occurred shortly after the tragic death of gang figure Othneil Lobban, known as ‘Thickman,’ led to significant damage to the store, located on Young Street. Unicomer Jamaica officials confirmed no injuries to staff, expressing relief that while the building was impacted, the well-being of their people remained unaffected. “Our people are irreplaceable, and their safety is our top concern,” said Errol Le Blanc, Managing Director of Unicomer Jamaica.

Dianne Dunston, the company’s Head of Sales, noted that communication with law enforcement is ongoing to monitor the situation closely. “We are in constant contact with local authorities to assess when it will be safe to reopen the Lucky Dollar location,” she said.

While operations at the Young Street store are paused, the company reassured customers that the Courts Bargain Centre on Kings Street in Kingston is open and fully operational. Additionally, the Courts Spanish Town Oasis location continues to function, with heightened security measures in place to protect staff and patrons.

Unicomer Jamaica pledged to provide further updates as the situation in Spanish Town unfolds, emphasizing that the safety of its employees and customers remains the company’s foremost priority.
