A tragic fire in the Peace View community of St. James left a family of six displaced on Saturday afternoon, including two children.

The fire, which ignited just after noon, quickly engulfed a five-apartment structure, reducing it to ashes with no items left to salvage. Residents, mostly at home at the time, were alerted to the fire by cries from neighbors. Fortunately, everyone was able to flee, though two adults suffered minor injuries during the escape.

The Fire Brigade promptly responded, deploying two units and an ambulance from the Montego Bay fire station. Firefighters worked swiftly to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings in the vicinity, including an adjoining house on the property.

The estimated damage is around $4 million, with the building being uninsured. This devastating incident has left the affected family without shelter and in need of immediate support.
