Alana Reid, the sensational Jamaican sprinter and World Under-20 100m champion, has taken a significant step in her career by switching training camps. Reid, who claimed two gold medals at the 2023 World Athletics U-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, including the 100m title, will now be training with the University of Arkansas-based Hurdles Mechanics group, as confirmed by multiple sources.
Previously, Reid trained with the renowned Star Athletics squad in Florida, under the guidance of coach Dennis Mitchell, where she worked alongside World Champion Sha’Carri Richardson. Now, at Hurdles Mechanics, Reid will join a talented team of Jamaican athletes, including Olympic teammates Ackera Nugent and Nickisha Pryce, under the mentorship of coach Lawrence ‘Boogie’ Johnson.
Following her graduation from Hydel High School, Reid turned professional, opting to sign with an athletics agency and bypassing a scholarship offer from the University of Oregon. Her meteoric rise in the sprinting world included her part in Jamaica’s relay team at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Reid, who holds the national junior record for the 100m with an impressive 10.92 seconds set at the 2023 ISSA Champs, continues to solidify her place as one of the brightest stars in Jamaican athletics.
