The political landscape of St. Mary South Eastern mourns the loss of Harry Douglas, a distinguished member of the People’s National Party (PNP) and former Member of Parliament. Douglas, aged 83, succumbed to a prolonged illness on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kingston.

Embarking on his parliamentary journey in 1989, Douglas dedicated 18 years to representing St. Mary South Eastern, culminating in his retirement from active politics in 2007. His tenure was marked by significant contributions, including his role as Minister of State in the Ministry of Water and Housing, where he played a pivotal part in advancing the region’s infrastructure and housing projects.

A respected figure within the PNP, Douglas held a senior position in the party’s executive body for St. Mary South East. Party officials expressed deep gratitude for his unwavering commitment and the positive impact he had both locally and nationally.

Harry Douglas is survived by his beloved wife, Denise, and their children, who remember him not only for his public service but also for his dedication to family and community.

His passing marks the end of an era for St. Mary’s political scene, but his legacy of service and dedication will continue to inspire future generations.
