Law enforcement officers detained a businessman from Farewell Avenue, St Andrew, during a targeted operation at his business premises on Constant Spring Road on Friday, December 6. The operation, which resulted in the seizure of an illegal firearm and ammunition, was part of an intelligence-led crackdown in the area.

The accused, 47-year-old Michael Nelson, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition. According to police reports, the operation took place between 9:00 am and 1:30 pm. During the investigation, Nelson reportedly handed over a Taurus GZC pistol along with a magazine loaded with six 9mm rounds.

Nelson was immediately taken into custody and later formally charged following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of his attorney. Authorities have not yet announced a court date for the case.

The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition across the island.
