KINGSTON, Jamaica – Cavalier SC, the reigning champions of the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League, kept their unbeaten record intact with a narrow 2-1 victory over Vere Phoenix United at Sabina Park on Sunday.
Cavalier wasted no time seizing control, as Dwayne Atkinson fired them into an early lead, striking within the opening minute. The fast-paced opening set the tone, and just before the halftime whistle, Jalmaro Calvin calmly slotted in a second goal, putting Cavalier in a comfortable position.
Vere Phoenix, however, was not ready to back down. Midway through the second half, Matthew Woo Ling managed to slip through Cavalier’s defense to bring the score to 2-1 in the 67th minute. Despite their determined efforts to level the match, Vere Phoenix couldn’t break Cavalier’s defense a second time.
This victory pushes Cavalier up to fourth in the standings with a tally of 15 points, while Vere Phoenix remains in ninth place with eight points.
