ST. JAMES, Jamaica — Authorities have arrested a local farmer in connection with the fatal shooting of a community member that occurred in 2022.

Terry Atkinson, a 26-year-old resident of Sand Lane, German Town, faces multiple charges, including murder, shooting with intent, and illegal possession of a firearm. The victim, Gary Morgan, also 26 years old, was a fellow resident of the same area.

The incident unfolded on September 4, 2022, around 1:45 PM. Witnesses report that Atkinson was seen with a group of eight armed men at a cook shop near Morgan’s home. According to eyewitness accounts, the group opened fire indiscriminately, prompting bystanders to seek shelter as the sounds of gunfire echoed throughout the area.

After the shooting ceased, Morgan was discovered with serious gunshot injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.

On October 30, 2024, a witness provided a statement to the police implicating Atkinson in the crime. Following an interview conducted with his legal representation on November 1, Atkinson was taken into custody and formally charged. His court date is currently being scheduled as the investigation continues.
