Kylian Mbappé expressed disbelief upon learning of his alleged involvement in a Swedish investigation into sexual assault, according to statements made by his legal representative.
Lawyer Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard reported that the French football star feels “unfazed” by the situation, emphasizing that he has not committed any wrongdoing.
While a Swedish prosecutor confirmed the initiation of a rape investigation, no names were disclosed in the announcement. Nonetheless, multiple media outlets, including Aftonbladet and Expressen, claimed that Mbappé is under scrutiny after a brief visit to Stockholm last week.
Canu-Bernard stated that the 25-year-old forward was “unaware of the magnitude of the allegations” and remains composed, asserting that he is perplexed by the allegations against him. She shared that he is more focused on his training than the unfolding situation.
“His preference is to continue with his professional commitments, yet he cannot allow himself to be wrongfully accused and vilified,” she explained. “Therefore, we will be pursuing legal action for defamation.”
Addressing the media reports, Canu-Bernard refrained from confirming or denying whether Mbappé is indeed a suspect in the investigation, citing a lack of clear information from the authorities.
“The prosecutor’s office has issued a statement that doesn’t specify whether he is involved, so we cannot ascertain if there’s a formal complaint against him,” she noted.
As the situation develops, both Mbappé and his legal team are keen to clarify his standing in this matter.
