On September 28, Hope Gardens in St Andrew became a vibrant hub of joy as the Flow Foundation and Bustamante Hospital for Children (BHC) joined forces for their annual children’s event, dedicated to pediatric cancer patients.

The day’s festivities were filled with laughter and camaraderie, offering young patients a delightful escape from their daily health struggles, all while enjoying quality time with their families.

“The purpose of this event goes beyond just medical treatment; it’s about nurturing the overall well-being of these children and their families,” stated LeVaughn Flynn, public relations manager at Flow and a director of the Flow Foundation. “We aim to provide an experience that fosters joy, connection, and healing.”

Dr. Sharon McLean-Salmon, a pediatric hematologist/oncologist at BHC, highlighted the significance of such events in the lives of young patients. “Today serves as a reminder of their incredible resilience,” she remarked. “While we focus on their medical needs, it’s essential for these children to also experience love, joy, and normalcy. Events like this create invaluable memories.”

Parents echoed this sentiment, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity. For many, the day offered a refreshing break from the rigors of hospital life, bringing smiles to their children’s faces.

“To see the kids playing freely and laughing together is truly heartwarming,” said Gillian Jameson, whose daughter is undergoing treatment at BHC. “We’re immensely grateful to the Flow Foundation and the hospital for providing this wonderful experience. It means so much to us.”

This initiative is a testament to the Flow Foundation’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals in the community, particularly those facing health challenges.

Globally, pediatric cancer affects over 300,000 children annually, marking it as a pressing health issue. Events like these remind us of the vital role that compassion and community support play in the healing journey.
